Hi, I’m Josh

De La Cruz

associate marriage & family therapist

I’m a father, creator, learner, avid movie/tv watcher, culture observer, gamer, and podcast listener while simultaneously chores-doer. I believe humor is healing, especially when diving into the hard stuff. It’s my joy to help people through any life stage, from all walks of life, no matter where you’ve come from or what you’ve been through. Therapy should be a place where you can be yourself. So here’s an open invite. Grab your cozy cup of coffee (or matcha, Owala flask, fill-in-the-blank) and let’s chat.

A bit more about me

I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem/shame, relational issues, behavioral addictions (doomscrolling, pornography, gambling, etc.), ADHD, and anger/emotional difficulties. I got into this work because I believe everyone deserves a fair shot at a happy, abundant life. Life often doesn’t hand out the best set of cards, especially to the best people. I love being able to help others figure out their purpose, their strengths, and why they do the things they do. We’re complex and fascinating human beings, and we deserve the ability to learn about ourselves with curiosity and self-respect.

Some of my favorite moments as a therapist are seeing flickers of hope in someone’s eyes for the first time. Perhaps you’ve felt stuck, buried, or out of control in your own body. I know it’s even a nerve-wracking and exhausting step to find the right therapist. You don’t have to have everything figured out. Feel free to reach out, and we’ll go from there.

Approaches I integrate into my work:

  • Considered a gold standard treatment for PTSD and trauma-related symptoms. Read more about it here.‍ ‍

  • Recognizes that deep hurt and healing come from relationships. Examines how attachment, the subconscious mind, and past experiences all shape how we think and feel today.

  • Recognizes that there are innate, unavoidable experiences in simply being human. Highlights our task of wrestling with life’s paradoxes—to be able to find purpose and meaning although life is full of pain, loss, and circumstances beyond our control.

  • Recognizes that thoughts are just thoughts, and feelings are just feelings, not facts. Teaches practical skills on how to do the things you want to do—regardless of how much anxiety, fear, or doubt you feel in any given moment.

  • Recognizes that children's first language is play. Helps process a child’s internal world, experiences, and big emotions before they even have the words to describe them.
